We subjected the Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G to our rigorous SBMARK Camera test suite to measure its performance in terms of photo, video and zoom quality from an end-user perspective. This article analyzes how the device performed in a variety of tests and several common use cases and aims to highlight the most important results of our tests with an excerpt of the data captured.

Pros

Versus

  • Occasional autofocus on wrong target, with shallow depth of field
  • Noise visible in low light conditions in photos and videos
  • Low level of detail in low light, with visible motion blur
  • Occasional ghosting, ringing and color quantization
  • In bokeh, visible depth artifacts, with unnatural blur tinge
  • Reduced dynamic range for low light conditions in videos
  • Visible sharpness differences between video frames under all conditions

The Xiaomi 12 Lite 5G is the most basic model available in the 12 series. While its rear camera configuration looks just like the others in the series, with three modules: primary, ultra-wide and macro, the camera modules of the 12 Lite 5G they actually use different sensors, which mostly explains the differences in image quality.

Overall, the device performed well in good lighting conditions. Target exposure and color rendition were pleasing in outdoor situations in both stills and video, but image detail was quite low. Indoors, and especially in low light, however, image noise was often visible with some artifacts.

For its price, which is about half of the high-end model in the series, the 12 Lite 5G’s camera performance was average overall, even when compared to other devices in its high-end segment ($400 to $1,000). 599). The lack of a tele module and a limited ultrawide module, compared to other devices in the segment, hampered the performance of the device.
