While the X-series gets most of the attention, vivo’s affordable Y-series brings 5G connectivity to the masses. At the end of last year the company launched the Y76s and Y76 5G, now it is preparing to launch a new vivo Y77 5G.

As on the Y76s, the new phone is powered by the Dimensity 810 chipset. The base configuration includes 8GB of RAM (plus 4GB virtual) and 256GB of storage (expandable via microSD). The phone runs FuntouchOS 12 based on Android 12 out of the box (compared to v11).

The vivo Y77 5G is slightly thicker and heavier at 8.25mm and 194g compared to 7.8mm and 175g. This is due to the larger battery, 5,000mAh (compared to 4,100mAh). However, 44W fast charging is disappearing, to be replaced by an 18W base system.

The camera setup is a mix of Y76 and Y76. This includes a 50MP (f / 1.8) main camera, which is joined only by a 2MP macro camera. On the front is a 16MP selfie cam, which supports face unlock. Alternatively, users can use the side-mounted fingerprint reader.

The display is the same, a 6.58-inch LCD with a resolution of 1,080 x 2,408 px (20: 9) and a standard refresh rate of 60 Hz.

The vivo Y77 5G will launch on July 7 (Thursday). The price has not yet been officially confirmed, but in China it is said to be 1,300 CNY ($ 195 / € 185 / ₹ 15,000). There are two colors to choose from: Glowing Galaxy and Starlight Black.

The phone is also expected in Malaysia where it will be available through Lazada, shopee and other retailers.
