introduction

It’s been ten months since the Poco X4 Pro premiered, and of course, in the dizzying pace of industry releases, it’s time for Poco’s new generation smartphone to come out. And while the X4 Pro was a big step down from the X3 Pro when it comes to performance, the new Poco X5 Pro focuses on just that. It also offers display and camera improvements and a new, slimmer design.

The Poco X5 Pro doesn’t deviate much from the established formula: there are no major updates, although there are enough improvements across the board to make you want to upgrade to the new model.

The highlights of the new Poco X5 Pro are Dolby Vision display with 1B color, fast Snapdragon 778G 5G chipset, 128GB base memory and 4K video capture is back!

Poco X5 Pro review

And if this Poco X5 Pro reminds you of some other phone, no wonder. It seems that this Poco will be the international version of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Speed for China.

The Poco X5 Pro retains the 6.67-inch 1080p AMOLED panel with 120Hz refresh and HDR10 certification from previous models. But now it has been updated with 10-bit color depth and Dolby Vision support.

The biggest change is the chipset, though. While the Poco X3 Pro ran on the flagship Snapdragon 860 SoC, the X4 Pro opted for the lower mid-range Snapdragon 695 chip. Well, gaming performance is back on the table with the X5 Pro and its capable Snapdragon 778G platform. The base configuration is now 6GB of RAM with 128GB of non-expandable storage, but you can also opt for an 8GB + 256GB version.

The photographic sector looks identical to that of the Poco X4 Pro: a triple configuration on the back with a 108 MP primary, an 8 MP ultrawide and a 2 MP macro, as well as a 16 MP selfie cam. There is now 4K video capture for the main camera, likely thanks to the Snapdragon chip update.

Other familiar essential specs remain the same: stereo speakers, a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and a 5,000mAh battery with 67W fast charging. The new Poco X5 Pro still runs on Android 12, but with the latest MIUI 14.

Finally, we want to acknowledge the refined design – while the shape of the phone and the huge black spot around the cameras remain the same, the back panels aren’t as flashy as before – the X5 Pro is available in simple black, blue and yellow colors , no effects, no gradients.

The specifications of the Poco X5 Pro at a glance:

Looking through the Poco X5 Pro’s specs, we can’t see many omissions. The phone has many fan-favorite features like dual SIM 5G, NFC, dual speakers, an IR blaster, and an audio jack. And just like the other Poco and Redmi phones, this one is splash resistant too.

One feature has been retired from the Poco X4 Pro, however, and that’s the microSD expansion slot. And there are people out there who won’t take it well.

The X5 Pro also comes with an anti-scratch film already applied to the screen. It’s a smudge magnet and we removed it after a few days, but many people will appreciate having it.
