vivo today unveiled a tablet and a phone the size of a tablet. The vivo X Note is huge with its 7-inch screen, and the rounded sides can’t make it a one-handed device. If you want to go bigger and maybe add a stylus and QWERTY keyboard, the vivo Pad is for you.

This behemoth has a 7 “Samsung E5 AMOLED display with QHD + resolution, which gives you plenty of room for multitasking. The display has an unusual aspect ratio of 21:10 (resolution 3,080 x 1,440 px), but vivo claims this is higher for multimedia consumption and multitasking. This shouldn’t surprise you, but DisplayMate gave the note an A + rating. The display promises a peak brightness of 1,500 nits and a DCI-P3 coverage of 112%.

Hidden behind the screen is a large ultrasonic fingerprint reader (Qualcomm’s 3D Sonic Max), like the one in the iQOO 8 Pro. The FP reader is so large that it can read two fingerprints at the same time – in fact, it only does if you want more security (two fingerprints increase security 50,000 times compared to one, says vivo). To help with color accuracy, there is a color temperature sensor mounted on the front.

Back to multitasking, the vivo X Note is powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, no surprises here. The basic configuration comes with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage. You can get a drive with 12GB of RAM instead, or go all out with a 12 / 512GB version. Security is enhanced by using the “Secure Processing Unit” (SPU) on the Snapdragon chip (first for the company).

The chipset is cooled by a huge vapor chamber (47.132mm²) and a graphite sheet. Borrowing from iQOO’s playbook once again, GPU output can be powered via a MEMC algorithm to boost frame rates without adding additional load to the GPU.

The Note comes with a quad camera on the back. It is equipped with ISOCELL GN1 of 50 MP – 1 / 1.3 ”, native pixels of 1.2 µm, 2.4 µm with binning. Combined with the bright f / 1.57 aperture, this camera will excel in low light photography. You can’t miss the hidden ZEISS logo in the corner, the lenses are officially branded “ZEISS Vario-Tessar” and have a T * anti-reflective coating.

There’s also an onboard periscope with a focal length of 125mm (aperture f / 3.4), which is 5x optical magnification (and up to 60x digital zoom). For mid-range zoom and portraits, there is a 12MP module (IMX663) with a 47mm (f / 2.0) lens, which works at 2x magnification. In addition, there is a 48MP ultra wide-angle camera with a 14 mm lens (114 °). All of this is supported by the custom V1 vivo ISP, which has enough power to perform face detection even if you’re taking a photo of a group of 30 people.

A little disappointing, the battery that powers this behemoth is quite small: it only has a capacity of 5,000 mAh. It’s quick to charge at 80W on a cable and 50W wirelessly, but we still expected more from a large device aimed at power users.

The note is available in three colors: blue, black and gray. All three have a leather texture with faux stitching on the back, as well as a full-width camera panel similar to the vivo X70 Pro + (and presumably the upcoming X80 Pro +).

The vivo Pad is powered by the Snapdragon 870 and runs a new branch of vivo software, dubbed Origin OS HD. An interesting feature is the use of NFC to pair your live phone with the Pad, which will mirror the phone display on the tablet. So you can interact with the phone apps and easily transfer files between the two devices.

The USB-C port is rated for USB 3.2 Gen1 (5Gbps) speeds, so you can connect fast storage and external displays, up to 4K at 60Hz.

The pad is quite thin at only 6.55mm thick, is made from aircraft grade aluminum and weighs 498g. You won’t see the antenna lines mar the clean lines of this slate, instead vivo has hidden the antenna under the display using in-house developed technology. The tablet’s 8,040mAh battery supports 44W fast charging.
