Baked rice, the recipe for a tasty single dish

Ingredients for 4 people

  • Rice: 350 gr
  • Tomato puree: 750 ml
  • Provola silana (or other cheese): 350 gr
  • Parmesan cheese: 8 tbsp
  • Butter: 50 gr
  • Breadcrumbs: to taste
  • Preparation: 10 minutes

Preparation

Take the rice and cook it al dente over medium heat; if necessary, it is possible to cook in the microwave at 750 watts for about 15 minutes, adding double the amount of water compared to that of rice and coarse salt.

Once the cooking time has elapsed, the rice will be ready to be used in the recipe.

Drain the rice from the excess water.

In the meantime, take care of the preparation of the sauce which can be tomato sauce or a meat sauce.

Put 2/3 ladles of sauce in the rice bowl and mix well.

Add the grated Parmesan cheese and the chopped butter. Continue to mix the ingredients to make them cream.

At this point, retrieve a pan and spread a layer of sauce on its bottom.

Continue with a first layer of rice adding about half of it; distribute the slices of provolone, or other type of cheese, and finish with the remaining part of rice.

Cover everything with another generous layer of sauce and a sprinkling of grated cheese.

Place the pan in a convection oven at 180 ° for about 25 minutes and cook until you get a nice crust on the surface before taking it out of the oven and serving it at the table.

Tips and tricks

  • At your convenience, you can replace the provolone with fiordilatte, a little smoked cheese or caciocavallo.
  • Use the rice you want: a Carnaroli, a wholemeal one or even the leftover rice from previous recipes to avoid waste.
  • For a tastier and richer variant of this dish, we suggest adding a few slices of hard-boiled eggs, peas or cubes of cooked ham to the filling.
  • If you have little time, prepare the rice in the oven the day before so your dinner with friends will be safe!

Baked rice can be preserved for 1 day in the refrigerator covered with cling film.
